Video works fine, but photos have a bar in the top half where they look way overexposed. With bright subjects, I'll tune in all the settings manually to give me no overexposure and everything looks fine in Live View, but the entire photo can be completely blown out. And where its not quite completely all blown out (maybe yellow at the edges) that bar is still there.

It looks like maybe the shutter is staying open too long in that area of the image?

This camera (and lens) have been working fine (for the most part) for 8 years now. This started happening a week ago and is in all my pictures.

looks like a shutter issue, i take it you are shooting mech shutter, do you have an option for electronic shutter?
also can you check how it behaves with long exposure with a correctly exposed image to see if its the same

OK, after much digging and experimenting, Canon says it has an electronic shutter but its not an option you can just switch to. Its used by default if you take a picture while filming but only uses the mechanical shutter if your just in photo mode, even if you're using Live View.

I had the camera serviced by Canon when it finally refused to work at all and I discovered the error code pointed to a recall they never notified me about. In fact, they deleted my account (who knows why or how) and lost my registration! In the end, they replaced the main board (but didn't bother to read the rest of my request as one of the selector dials doesn't work right anymore) and a month later, a piece of plastic started dangling in front of the sensor! I'm assuming it was from when they replaced the main board and left a piece of trash in there from the parts packaging?!? Who knows. There's probably something else they left in there that's interfering with the shutter mechanics.

I think I'm just going to have to take it to a camera repair shop and see what they can do.
