Hello to everybody, I am new to photography having just bought an R7. I am looking for a zoom lens like the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 USM. What do i need to get this to fot my new camera? Would the lens adapter EF-EOS R help me achieve this?

Just the lens. That is all you need. You have a "R" mount camera, and the lens that you are looking at is a "R" mount lens, so you will be good to go. If you were to buy yourself an "EF" lens, that is when you will need to buy and use the adaptor. The "R" mount is the mirrorless lens mount, and the "EF" is the DSLR mount, but you can use these older lenses on your newer camera. But not the other way around.

Funny you should say that. I do have one question. I would like to do more wildlife photography but my kit 18-150 lens doesn't have much zoom. How do I work out which lenses will be good for zooming in? I see lenses like 100-400, does that mean they have a long zoom? Is there a good guide for working this stuff out?

What I would suggest is to grab something like the 100mm-400mm, and see how it works out for you. Work with a lens like this for a while and learn about what you are trying to shoot. It will also give a chance to learn how to use your camera. It also depends on how big the wildlife is, and how close you can get to it. Once you get a feel about your gear, then look at some more specialised gear. If this lens doesn't work out for you, sell it on.

looking at it from the M50 point of view also being a crop canon, the 100-400mm is a great wildlife focal size, on the rf mount the 100-400mm is the more affordable one and the rf 100-500mm being more expensive but the one to go for if you want the best of the best

both of my big guns are from sigma, the 100-400mm and the 150-600mm, both of these work excellently on the ef /ef-s bodies but they have a couple of small issues on rf like the R7 and R6mkII and that being the eye auto focus can pulse a bit in some situations
until sigma get the go ahead from canon to start producing rf af lenses its best to go for the canon rf ones, the sigmas do work on them but with that issue in some cases

for me the efm 18-150mm and the 100-400mm are a great combination for a walk about kit for wildlife, not sure on the weights of the two rf lenses but they seem to be liked lot

Duade Paton does alot on the R7 and wildlife, check out his other vids too
