I picked up an EFS 10-18 4.5-5.6 IS STM today that has a damaged mount (two of the three flanges are broken) but works well if I hold it on to the camera. I'd like to replace the mount, but it looks like the only replacements on offer are for 18-55 lenses. The alternative is to build up the flanges from epoxy resin, which works but is a pain to get dead right.
Anyone know of a source for these mounts? Or will an 18-55 mount work?

ebay has some metal ones from china,
i know aliexpress pulls lenses and cameras apart and sells them as spare parts to which has helped out many people,
when i've ordered from china on ebay the speedpak stuff comes in a few days (to UK) and there is no customs etc to pay

saw this on ebay when typing 'canon 10-18 repair'
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203788036866?hash=item2f72b6ab02:g:8DQAAOSwUi9gC7cs&amdata=enc:AQAIAAAA4F0XUGR2yE+sn9EEiKwoqPO71zxZJhPVJuqDhCxBnKMgFg5v+oHFw42DHY6eHm0Y9/rDMt0ULF6n2GrjX0QM5XPan6oSzDmpyAr5WoZRSfPnBJM+dGJFl2A272B4WlFu1zJxm4EfcNm3YchGRwSZROQEzG5clQWqW95ILzOjNsuiDsD6nbM1pKolDiBjpywykGIaF8c/gg2xKOlyCXWtQwVz9/GOPEEkiHkK9cExE7ruk2/YSAjsbKBLH3/AecjYr10GycQrbKTJ2ZxYyIoOkF+I8OoE9U4EG8uj/ijRxgr6|tkp:Bk9SR-DcwPunYg

no idea if they are good etc but it will be much prefered over epoxy repair on a mount flange,
its a pretty common lens you may find one local for repair with a good rear end, think i would try the new mount option as its pretty cheap if its pants

(edit) i just realized its you posting, you must have quite a few efs lenses in you could try a rear mount swap with?

Sorry, I thought I replied yesterday but I didn't press the "post" button. Couldn't find anything suitable on Aliexpress so I went with the metal mount - it's a bit more than I wanted to spend (more than I paid for the lens!) but I think it's worth it. Many thanks for pointing it out to me.

Re cannibalizing, I'm currently right out of expendable Canon lenses - I have an 18-55 which is the workhorse lens for my Canon and nothing else. It's not something I see very often, I generally try to avoid buying faulty gear for some strange reason, unless it's really cheap and I already know I need it for some reason. The 10-18 is an exception because it's in very nice condition apart from the flanges and I'd like to have a play, if I don't keep it I'll sell it on and probably break even or make a small profit.

Re replacing flanges with epoxy resin - I've done it a few times with Minolta and Nikon lenses, they usually work pretty well. It's mostly a last resort if spares/dead lenses are unavailable or worth more than the lens, which isn't the case here. You just need to start off with good resin and spend some time sanding and cutting to get it right.

Finally received the mount this evening - not very impressed with their delivery time. However, it looks to be a very well-made mount and very solid - I suppose that they used the same dimensions as the plastic mount, so it's probably much stronger. I'm a bit busy over the next few days so it's most likely I'll try to fit it next week. I'll try to take some photos while I'm working on it.

Needless to say I ended up fitting it this morning - took about 15 minutes, mostly time spent sorting out the right screwdrivers etc., and it's working very well on a quick test. If it's nice tomorrow I'll probably take it out for a walk around Kensington Gardens and see what the results are like compared to e.g. the 8mm Samyang fisheye I have for my Nikon. It fits onto an EF mount nicely - on a 35mm body it seems to be good down to about 14mm, after that the corners are cropped. Of course that's looking through a viewfinder which is probably slightly cropped compared to the negative or a full-frame sensor, the actual results may not be anywhere near as good.

It's really very easy to do this on a Canon lens - no mechanical problems, just six screws to undo and replace - last time I did something like this it was to put a new mount on a Nikon 18-55 and it took more like 45 minutes, mostly repeated failed attempts to transfer the lever part of the mechanical stopdown mechanism from the old mount to the new one, because it's very difficult to hook up the little spring that makes it work without it flying off in a random direction.

If anyone's interested there's a video on how to swap Canon mounts here:

Due to other commitments and some crappy weather when I was not otherwise committed I only got around to taking it out for a walk today. Took it on my usual stroll through Kensington Gardens, put an album of photos on flickr:

It's very easy to use, and the autofocus and stabilization are pretty good, but I'm not sure I'm going to be keeping it. While there's nothing especially bad about it, I think I like my 8mm Samyang for Nikon better - it doesn't zoom, of course, but if I want 18mm I can use my kit lens. Although there's only a tiny difference in focal length, this one feels like it has been corrected so carefully for curvature that it loses a lot of the impact I get with the 8mm. It would be a much better lens for a lot of the things ultra-wide lenses are used for, such as taking photos of a building interior to maximize a feeling of spaciousness, but that's not really my interest.

Test photos from the 8mm Samyang here, if you want to compare:

I'm selling it on eBay UK, auction starting today (see the Marketplace for more information)

A small problem I hadn't thought of - the rear element protrudes slightly with the EF mount I've fitted, and there's a small possibility that the mirror of a full-frame DSLR or 35mm SLR will foul against it, damaging the lens and/or camera. That's why they made the EF-S mount incompatible with full-frame cameras. On the whole I'm very pleased I didn't press the shutter button when I was trying this on a 35mm body!
