Hi, I'm looking for a new, more comfortable neck strap and have seen some that use rope! Some use climbing rope or sailing rope and some seem to use just a generic rope style material. I was interested as though do look comfortable. I was just wondering if anyone has used one of these rope style neck straps and if you know whether or not they'd hold the weight of a 5d with up to a 23-135 zoom lens. Many thanks, Nick.
not a fan of neck straps, even with efm lenses on m50, if you need a strap have you considered black rapid shoulder type? i found that alot better when i was getting used to carrying the sigma 100-400mm, now i just use a shoulder bag for all types of lens except the 150-600mm as its a monster the other item i have is a paracord wrist strap which i have on the camera all the time
Nicholas, like Caladina, I do not like them, I find that small diameter neck straps seem to apply pressure to a small area of the neck and make it uncomfortable, personally I like a wide strap to spread the pressure. Now if the use of a rope neck is due to it's lower cost, go into a Op shop and buy a bag and use the strap off of that, I have several for use on my cameras. If your heart is set on one, use a cotton one as they will not chaff the skin.
an item that does feel good as a camera neck strap would be a ladies knitted dress belt, it will be soft and comfy but you would have to test the strength of the individual item, but still not a fan of the neck type.
Great, thanks for the replies. Some of the 'rope' straps do seem incredibly cheap, approx £4 for some on amazon which leads me to think they cannot be made that well. Thanks for the advice, Nick.
