one of my latest acquisitions a brand new still in the box Sigma 50-150mm ƒ2.8 EX APO OS, the bigger 3rd gen version.

i was looking for something with a constant aperture around ƒ1.8 with a short tele range like 50-150mm, i was looking at the sigma 50-100mm ƒ1.8 but it wasn't quite long enough and lack of IS ment it wouldn't be suitable for its main use of lower light zoom for darker areas of a zoo like the forest type enclosures.

i discovered it existence when searching ebay with very generic zoo lens search and low ƒ stop, i all but gave up then one of these popped up and watching videos about it it seemed it might be ok as EX was a good bit of glass in its day, next day i searched ebay and to my surprise i found a brand new one for £450, i had been considering a canon 70-200mm ƒ2.8 II or II but the price of those were too much for what i was after.

its been a good lens so far being sharp an good for the range in need, close up to short/mid telephoto, a typical portrait style lens, its one of the few lenses i put a x2 on and its gotten even sharper, not sure if that is the magnification or the natural stopping down effect.

my next test will be a direct comparison using the sigma ef 105mm ƒ1.4 and sigma efm 56mm ƒ1.4, it will be interesting to see how the pros and cons of the two ƒ1.4 lenses play against the ƒ2.8, the ƒ1.4 's are non IS where as the ƒ2.8 has IS and the ease of a zoom vs the two primes though i do now have two M50 bodies i take with me, handy for events and nice when testing/playing with two lenses at the same time, long and wide etc
