    In 1840 Great Britain issued the world's first postage stamps, the Penny Black and the Twopenny Blue. This example of the latter (Stanley Gibbons catalogue No. 5, Plate 1, in use from May to July 1840) has a red Maltese Cross cancellation.

    Taken for submission in another place.
