Waxing Gibbous Moon captured handheld with a Canon 70 - 300 mm zoom lens on Canon 6D camera. Thought it wasn't too bad for a hand held snap. The four big dark patches at the top above center are Mare Tranquillitatis (aka Sea of Tranquility), Mare Serenitatis (aka Sea of Serenity), Mare Fecunditatis and Mare Crisium. Tycho Crater is at the bottom left, bright spot. The bright spot at the bottom right is Stevinus Crater.
Lots of detail there. Was that image cropped much? The reason why I ask is that I have a Canon 75-300mm and both a full frame Canon ( like your 6D) and a 20D which is APS-C which makes that lens even longer. Pretty good for handheld too. I will use a tripod.
Thanks Craig. I was a bit surprised myself by the outcome given that it was hand held and the lens used did not pack the magnification power.
Thanks. I wasn't suggesting that you needed a tripod. You did quite well without one. I was just saying that I would use a tripod if I were taking such a shot.
