Thank you, Gary and Craig... it is a bit easier when the subject is there in front of you. Those late Winter / early Spring sunsets are magical, and occur early enough to catch them right after a work day.

I took this pano of the Hayward Japanese Garden in California when we were in the US last year. It is a 3-shot pano, hand held.

The gardens are a lovely tranquil spot.

It's been a few days but here's an edit of your image to make it pop a bit.
This is what I did to lift the image.
Firstly I just lifted the colours with a Hue/Sat adjustment layer and reduced the blue colour cast in the snow on the mountains with colour correction using a curves layer and finding the black point, white point and mid tone point. These adjustments are all achieved with practice over a long time. I used several different layers, including, colour gradient for the sky, cloning layer to paint in some mountain sections that were missing on the left and levels layers as well. I used a colour gradient mask to add more blue to the sky. I added colour reflection in the water and made the water more blue. This was not an easy edit but all achievable within Photoshop. I've never used GIMP but there are plenty of tutorials on You-tube - as well as PS Elements, which can create luminosity masks.

    LUMINOSITY MASKS
In general, a layer mask is a layer which can reveal or hide parts of the underlying layer. You achieve this by painting on the mask, either with WHITE (to reveal) or BLACK (to hide).
A LUMINOSITY mask is a mask created from using the brightness (luminance) of a layer. It will show a range of all shades of grey, from white through to black. Sort of like a film negative.
You can apply many different adjustments to the layer, like Curves, Levels and/or Sharpness to name a few.
You-tube again is a good reference for how-to make and use them.
    Take a look HERE.

It's not that easy to explain in words, as is a lot of editing tricks, so a video tutorial will make it easier to grasp the concept.
    I hope this is OK.
    Cheers, Greg

Easy as with Elements using the "Spot Healing Brush".
    Here's a quick tutorial HERE
